Angle drilling under fuel tanks

July 27, 2016

Sometimes on site investigations we need to get a look at what is immediately under a buried asset. In this case the task was to drill 6o Degree angle holes under a series of fuel tanks to obtain soil samples.

As part of this investigation the usual service locating and Non destructive digging – NDD (pot holing) was undertaken to ensure that no buried services were intersected. It was also important to know the diameter and depth of the tanks to calculate the offset distance and the depth of drilling required to sample under the tanks. In addition to this 60 degree angle concrete cores were also cut.

Luke Webster, from Western Service Locators, did an excellent job of mapping the tanks and pipe work.
